I'm used to crocheting during movies. Some people listen to music, I listen to "The Royal Tenenbaums".
And it's a lot of fun. Better than slinging body butters, for sure.
But what I'm really hoping to do is capture the awesomeness of what I see in those movies.
All directors have a voice and a vision. Their visual aesthetic inspires others. Their music choices reveal inner ponderings. Sure, the script helps... but what really inspires is the whole pretty sounds & pictures.
This is what I think comics should be like. One should be able to look at the pretty pictures and feel what's going to happen. One should be able to feel what is happening!
Some comics that I've purchased as of late have been freakin' awesome (like Andy Waugh's "Coupledom") even though he doesn't have tons of background imagery. He tells the story with expression and pop culture references. We can all relate to pop culture somehow. There's always something going on around us that stimulates a memory in the making.
It'd be better if there were soundtracks in comics. Some people have done this. Jeffrey Brown used to draw the album covers of what he was listening to when he drew his stories at the back of his books. I think a few others did, too. I've wanted to include a mix to be listened to whilst reading my graphic novel one day...
Anyway, I babble about these dreams that I have for being awesome. And I think I'm getting closer to those dreams. But I guess it's because of some of the crappy comics I've read and the great ones that I've read, I feel like I can do the pretty pictures a little more justice.
I hope I can.
