Lessons a 3 week-old newborn will teach you

In a sunny little cottage by the sea sleep a tiny baby boy & his mommy. I slip in around 8 and try not to wake them as I turn the door's lock with my key.

Turns out they were both kind of awake anyways, but I thought I'd be nice. :)

For those of you who didn't know, I am now a "tia" or aunt! Well, sorta. As much of an aunt you can be without being related to someone by blood.

Meaning I was around while he was being baked in the oven of him mom's guts and I am changing a few diapers, carrying him around on my shoulder and making sure he's happy while his parents get a few moments of reprieve.

Little Baby Jack was born on April 18th, so he's still pretty new to these parts, but he's already figuring out some crucial things:

  • Boobs make food. Make sure there are always boobs around.
  • Pooping is hard to do. Make sure you give it your all as many times as you can.
  • Bouncing is awesome. Make sure to make people bounce you as much as humanly possible.
  • Gas is super lame. Make sure to get rid of gas in as many funny ways as possible for maximum crowd shocking effect.
  • I am adorable. Make sure to use that to my advantage.

Needless to say, I've already picked up a few tricks of my own in the few precious times I've been able to hang out with Baby Jack and his lovely mum, Katy.

  • You are growing at a ridiculous rate right now. Even if I started making your acorn cap that I promised your mum, it wouldn't fit you in a week!
  • Sometimes you're just gonna cry cos you feel like it. If you ever feel like toning it down so that your mum can relax for a bit, that'd be a tremendous bonus.
  • You totally don't even know how loved you are by everybody yet. One day you will and you'll start smiling on purpose!
  • You got your dimples from ME! ...possibly thru osmosis.
I feel really lucky to be able to be a part of Katy, Kevin & Jack's lives right now. I've never been this close to a newborn or helped a kid grow from all stages of life, so this will definitely be weird. But I guess so long as we keep Baby Jack & his family fed & watered, everything will turn out all right. :)

Something else I learned from hanging out with Katy & Baby Jack is that if you feel like doing something awesome, do it! So one day when I felt poopy, I decided to do something awesome to make my friend feel better. Today I drew a gnome farting & framed it to celebrate Katy's birthday. A few weeks ago, I made a grumpy raincloud pee on everyone in shot of my friend's rearview mirror.

I will leave you in the knowledge that sometimes you just got make awesomeness: whether it's a whole baby that you made in your guts for many months, or a few random works of radness that you're excited about. Chances are that if you're excited about it (even if it occasionally frustrates you), it's totally worth doing.

Thanks for teaching me that, Baby Jack. ;)

Geek Chic Guide: May the Fourth be with You

Although I'm like 3 days late, I wanted to show off what Star Wars Day means to me this year:

1. Tina Fey as Leia - If you know me, you know I dig quirky things. And among those things, Tina Fey is pretty damn high up on the list. So when I think of Star Wars, Liz Lemon telling a court that she doesn't think it's fair that she be appointed to a jury because she "can read MINDS!" is pretty damn awesome. Makes me glad to have purchased her autobio, Bossypants! If you're a fan, TOTALLY worth the money!

2. Ewok Amigurumi - My internet friend, Chris Pugh, recommended that if I ever get tired of crocheting Bob-Ombs & Mushrooms, I should give these bad boys a try. And I gotta say, lucyravenscar's work is awesome! Anytime an Ewok has a toothpick as a weapon, COUNT ME IN!!

3. Kawaii Yodas - Man... a lot of adorable baby crap is flying around these days. And although my bio-clock is quite tickin' all that loudly at the moment, it's items in Micielomicielo's Etsy Store that drive me baby-cray-cray! Other radness includes: Mr.T, Princess Leia & Pee-Wee Herman-ish kids clothing! SQUEE!

4. Chewy Doggie? - And then there was the pic that started it all that my friend, Eduardo E., posted on his Facebook... of a Chewie Dog!!! Which promptly made me wanna show Roger, cos he giggles WAY too much at pictures like these. I thought ya'll might like it too!
Hope you all had a great week & please post awesome links to things you find to be Star Wars-y Geek Chic!

Got Pac-Man Insomnia

Guess what? It's 4:30 in the morning and although it's been an incredibly awesome ( and long!) day, I'm still awake.

What am I doing with all my spare time, you may ask? Well, I'm playing old school Pac-Man on my Nintendo DS, of course!

And I've determined a couple of things while playing this game for the last 4 hours or so:
  1. I am TERRIBLE at Pac-Man
  2. My knee-jerks when I get eaten. I also cuss under my breath.
  3. Pinky ALWAYS gets me! What a douche!
  4. I can't get past the 3rd level (see #1).
  5. I seriously want to sell my Pac-Man items again.
Once upon a time, I used to sell my Pac-Man amigurumi in my Etsy shop, until one day, Namco got poopy cos they didn't want ANYONE on Etsy selling anything to do with Pac-Man. Their 30th anniversary was coming up & I guess art inspired by their iconic imagery was not something they were into.

I was NOT the only one who came home one day with all of my Pac-Man related items pulled from my shop without my consent. However, I'm probably one of the only people that didn't put anything Pac-Man related back up for sale in my shop a few days later.

And over a year later, I still wouldn't want to put my items up for sale, only to get reprimanded again.

So, since I'm up and since it seems that sleep won't be coming anytime soon, I thought I'd ask my rad readers:

Do you think I ought to start selling my Pac-Man related items again?
Would love to hear what you think in the comments! :D

Hot Pink is the Colour!

So I get an order for a Mini Bob-Omb on Sunday night from a guy who says:
Could you do him in the pink color from Mario 64? The "I'll prepare the cannon for you". My girlfriend can't stop saying that!
To which I say, "Of course, dude!"

I guess I do custom orders on the fly! :D
